Explore Western Port – fieldtrip

Join Geography Victoria on the waterfront at Hastings for a fascinating day exploring the environment, geographical and economic significance of Western Port.

Western Port lies at the heart of the UNESCO Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve and is an internationally recognised Ramsar-listed wetland, where diverse ecosystems and wildlife coexist with industry and renewable energy.

Mel Barker, CEO of the Western Port Biosphere Reserve, and Jeff Weir, Executive Director of the Dolphin Research Institute, will introduce their organisations and programs, discuss Western Port challenges—including avian influenza—and lead a walk along the Warrangine Boardwalk.

After lunch, participants will drive ten minutes to the Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal for a visit hosted by the Port of Hastings Corporation.
