General Information
Event Description
We’re warmly inviting members of RSV and science and technology practionners to join a 3-month science mentorship program focused on basic science training (including a hands-on wet lab session).
If you’ve ever been curious about what actually happens in a research lab, from how drugs are developed to how diseases are studied, then Citizens of Science is your chance to learn directly from researchers and experience science in action.
What is Citizens of Science?
CoS is a community engagement program that is run by graduate students from multiple leading medical research institutes from across Parkville. Our aim is to bridge the gap between researchers, the scientific knowledge they generate, and the public, who ultimately benefit from these discoveries. This is a free program, tailored to those curious about health, medicine, and research but do not have a scientific background.
What's in this for you?
As a mentee in the program, you’ll start by learning key biology concepts through easy-to-follow online modules and tutorials. Then, you’ll take part in a hands-on lab session before being matched with a research student mentor. Together, you’ll explore their real-world research project. The program ends with a final celebration event, where you'll share your experience, hear about other exciting projects, and connect with fellow participants. This is a great opportunity to explore science and biomedical research, build new skills, and have fun with others who are just as curious as you are!
When and where?
The program starts with a welcome event mid-September, runs throughout October, with the final event occurring at the start of November. You can find more information about the relevant dates on the Eventbrite page below.
